Kennedy Space Center adds new attractions

Added: Mar 23, 2022
Category: Things to Do

Opening Spring 2022, you will be able to explore the future of space exploration in Gateway: The Deep Space Launch Complex at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. Experience the interstellar travel of tomorrow while celebrating what is happening right now within their space program. Discover the current innovations of space exploration by getting up close to actual spacecraft and see visionary designs for solutions to propel the pathway of human deep space travel.

Once the attraction is open, guests will be able to get up close and personal with the Falcon 9 booster from all angles, as well as a space-flown Orion Crew vehicle and scale models of the NASA Space Launch System and ULA Atlas V and Delta IV Heavy.

On the second floor of Gateway will be a presentation station where you can learn all about the James Webb Telescope, which will head into space this December.

The new building sits just beyond the Rocket Garden and houses the airport of the future, entitled “Spaceport KSC.” Guests will embark on their own space journey of the present and future in a two-story, 4-D flying theatre.

With four different journeys to experience, guests will be able to board their spaceship and get a glimpse of what the future of space travel and launch day can be like. These experiences include “Cosmic Wonders,” “Daring Explorers,” “Red Planet,” and “Uncharted Worlds.”

The attraction is accessible for those who are able to transfer out of their wheelchairs; for those who may be sensitive to loud noises, sights or nervous with motion, there is an Observation Deck where they can enjoy the experience.

On top of the Gateway building, there is also an area that features launch views, which will be open for specially-booked private events. Gateway’s rooftop will be a versatile space for both launch and landing viewing. Affixed to the rooftop will be a Planewave CDK20 Telescope with a Espirit 100mm triplet deep sky APO Refractor, and an Altair 125mm solar refractor will offer access to some of the sky’s most amazing celestial and solar wonders. The stunning images can then be shared for educational purposes.

Gateway will also include a full production kitchen featuring a variety of dishes, from açaí bowls to noodles and rice, for guests to enjoy!
